Fashion is letting us know that climate change is real
It is fair to say with the ever changing climate at present, knitwear has taken a step forward. It has become more than the dodgy knitted jumper/cardigan your grandmother made you. We Brits now wear knits throughout Autumn, Winter and even some of Spring.
The highstreet has been adopting new techniques. And using different varieties of yarn, to make knitwear cool. Both in temperature and style. No longer are the shelves piled high with the traditional itchy jumpers. Knitwear has branched into other areas. Like crop tops with the help of the 90’s trend. Coverups thanks to the growing jackets trend. And even skirts and trousers.
On the whole designers have kept knits fairly traditional. Until now.
Pringle’s AW16 show is jam packed with new trend knits. They have given us dresses, skirts, jumpers and overcoats. They have shown us layering, ways to mix and match options. And used an array of mixed textures and textiles. I could sing their praises all day. All of the product is relevant; and all on trend. I look forward to seeing how the highstreets’ interpretation of these designs.
There is so much that can be done. A-symmetric crop tops, geo prints marked out by seam lines and not just the printed fabric. Just thinking about it gets me all design juices going.
I might just do my own interpretation.
Until next time.
